Nestled in the vibrant heart of Chicago’s River North neighborhood, Quartino Ristorante offers a compelling journey into the rich and diverse flavors of authentic Italian cuisine. This Italian, pizza, and wine bar gem brilliantly captures the essence of rustic Italy while perfectly tailoring it to a lively urban dining experience. From the moment you step inside, the warm, inviting atmosphere and the tempting aromas of fresh herbs, simmering sauces, and wood-fired pizzas instantly transport you to the bustling trattorias of Italy.
The menu at Quartino Ristorante is a celebration of Italian culinary craftsmanship, bursting with dishes that delight the senses and satisfy a wide range of palates. Renowned for their handcrafted pasta, the pappardelle al sugo di manzo offers a luscious, tender beef ragu coating perfectly chewy ribbons of pasta—rich yet balanced with a deep, meaty flavor that lingers on the palate. The gnocchi and shrimp risotto are equally irresistible, showcasing a smooth texture and bold, authentic seasonings that speak to the kitchen’s dedication to quality.
Pizza lovers will appreciate the thoughtfully curated options like the half pepperoni, half margherita pizza, which masterfully combines savory, spicy cured meats with the fresh tang of vine-ripened tomatoes and fragrant basil. Each pizza crust is a careful harmony of crispness and chewiness, baked to golden perfection.
For those who enjoy sharing and tasting a variety of flavors, Quartino’s Salumeria Tasting is a standout: a generous assortment of two salumi, two formaggi, and two spuntini elegantly paired with mixed olives for just $34. This selection exemplifies the restaurant’s dedication to traditional Italian antipasti done exceptionally well.
Indulge your sweet tooth with exquisite desserts like the decadent tiramisu cake or the rich hot chocolate cake served with velvety vanilla gelato, both beautifully balancing sweetness and creaminess to close your meal on a high note. The espresso martini also proves to be a popular choice—a smooth, sophisticated cocktail with just the right kick, ensuring your night ends on a stylish note.
The dining setup at Quartino is equally accommodating and vibrant. Whether you're seated in the bustling bar area, perfect for solo diners or casual catch-ups, or enjoying the more intimate dining room experience, the atmosphere is buzzing with the energy of an authentic Italian eatery where friendly servers like Jonathan and Shannon go above and beyond to make you feel right at home. Their knowledgeable wine pairings elevate each dish, perfecting your culinary experience.
Customers frequently praise the consistency and quality of the food and service, noting how even during busy, energetic evenings, the staff maintains impeccable attention and warmth. Favorites like the meatballs were described as "heavenly," and the restaurant’s small plates and family-style shares make it ideal for both intimate dinners and lively gatherings. The freshness of ingredients, expert seasoning, and thoughtful presentation all come together to create meals that are as memorable as they are delicious.
Whether you're a Chicago local or visiting the city, Quartino Ristorante is a must-visit destination for anyone craving a genuine taste of Italy mingled with the energy and charm of Chicago’s dining scene. It’s a place where every bite tells a story—and one you’ll be eager to return to again and again.
Great dinner here! Jonathan was a fantastic server, helped us to a great choice of wine. The ricotta appetizer was awesome, I will be getting that one again. Pappardelle entree was perfect. The sausage risotto was good, just wish it was cooked a bit longer. Nonetheless we had an amazing night and will for sure be returning.
As a guy travelling alone, I was recommended this spot by someone so I thought I’d check it out right away. I was offered a seat in the bar area of the restaurant as a walk-in at 8pm on a Friday night which was lucky as there were plenty folk waiting for a table in the dining area at the same time. I sat at the bar where I met Shannon who was about 90% of what made this place so special. She was a brilliant bartender, with a personality that equalled her skills as a waitress. She took the time to talk me through lots of food and drink options and even gave me a taster of a digestivo which was really kind. I ate a veal meatball slider and the tortellini with pea and prosciutto. Both dishes were so tasty and brought out super fast from the kitchen. My company at the bar were great and I got chatting to Chicago locals on both sides which as a Brit abroad I appreciated a lot! All in all I had a great evening at this restaurant and would highly recommend.
Great Italian restaurant serving up “tapas” like Italian dishes. The pasta is delicious, perfectly chewy in sauces that are not overpowering. Service is good even during very busy hours and this place seems to always be busy in the evenings regardless of the day of week. There is seating inside (both in the main dining area and in the bar area (which is first come, first served)) as well as a small outdoor patio right in front of the place. It can get pretty loud and sometimes hard to have a conversation. Reservations are available but they do require a credit card and will charge you a $10 no show fee. I particularly liked the salad and pasta dishes.
The sights, smells and tastes will welcome you to Italy inside the Windy City. The service was excellent and the freshly made food scrumptious. The option of ordering half plates made it easy to share family style! Three of us were pleasantly full after sharing the Sliced Gibsons Australian Strip Steak served with broccolini, grape tomatoes and onions; the Tuscan Sausage Risotti and Orecchetti. The freshly baked bread, of course, paired well with all dishes. Nice selection of wines and unique cocktails.
Meatballs are heavenly. Just cause the espresso martini does not have 3 beans does not mean it’s not great. It’s fab if you wanted to know. Great balsamic on the table and that is how you judge restaurants. Misestrone wasn’t my favorite and ceasar like 8/10. GET THE MEATBALLS.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Lunch at Quartino! Stopped in for lunch at Quartino on State Street and had an outstanding experience. The table bread alone was a great start — warm, flavorful, and even better with the fun assortment of cheeses, balsamic, and olive oil they provide. I ordered the arugula salad and the San Daniele arugula pizza, and both were excellent. The salad was incredibly refreshing, packed with farm-fresh ingredients and great texture from the nuts and citrus. The pizza was the real standout — absolutely loaded with toppings, with silky prosciutto, plenty of fresh arugula, and a perfectly airy, flavorful dough that really impressed me. Great atmosphere, great service, and top-quality food. I’ll definitely be back!
Food was amazing! As a college student, getting the chance to get out and eat such delicious food was a dream! Everything is made fresh by order and the ambiance was phenomenal. Fernando was a wonderful server! We ordered the Spaghetti, Gnocchi, Shrimp Diavolo, Bruschetta, and Cappuccino! I personally just added a bit of salt but this place was amazing and I would definitely recommend to anyone!
Great high quality Italian that features small plates. Recommend the Kale Salad, Beet Salad or Assortment of Olives to start. For entrees recommend the Salmon or Beef Short Rib - was tender and flavorful. Truffle Risotto was amazing, Shrimp Risotto is good too. They have a solid Gluten Free menu.
